The Makeup Show L.A. 2012 Recap
March 22nd, 2012I cannot imagine a better way to spend a weekend than jumping on a plane to go to The Makeup Show L.A.
The most bizarre thing about this show was the fact that I came from bright and sunny Toronto to cold and rainy L.A…luckily we had a nice sunny day on Sunday!
While I was not able to work on my tan, I did have a great time working with Alcone and an amazing team of people.
I have a couple of pictures of the few times that there was a moment to grab my camera… I can’t wait until TMS New York!

- So many amazing products at the Alcone Booth including BeautySoClean of course!

I snapped a quick slightly stalker photo of Pursebuzz's very pretty booth!

Butterfly Paperself Eyelashes
One of many benefits to working out of the Alcone booth is that they always have the coolest new products on hand. If you want to miracle working
products all the way from Australia, Alcone will have it stocked. You can literally go to the booth, pick up almost any product and have your mind blown away by what each of them does. Sometimes I feel as though I have stepped in Willy Wonka’s Factory and I am on the verge of chewing gum that will give me the sensation of a 4 course meal.
This year when I arrived at the Makeup Show L.A. Vince handed me a box of the Paperself eyelashes, and I was absolutely gobsmacked at how pretty and creative these lashes are! From scorpions to peonies to french silk. Each and every set is unique and well designed and perfect for anyone willing to go out on a limb, and most importantly for the ultimate editorial look.
Paperself also designs furniture and lighting among other things.
Make sure to watch out for this brand as I am sure there will be more exciting creations on their horizon!
Were you at the Makeup Show L.A.? Did you pick up a pair of some Paperself Eyelashes? We would love to see how they look on if you did! Let us know what your favourite Makeup Show L.A. products were this year!
Love, Kat

Favourite Product of the Week! (OCC Lip Tar!!)

Lip Tar Shade: Stalker
There are so many things that I love about this product (and brand). For one, they aren’t afraid to go a little crazy. Blue, purple, white lip tars. I stare at all of them and think… “now could I pull off sky blue lip tar? No, I think not.” I also love that OCC is vegan cruelty free. It is such a beautiful message to send out to the world, that you can buy amazing inexpensive products without having to hurt anyone in the process!
I brought this beauty back from a tradeshow a couple of months ago and it is by far my favourite red lip product. It is like a gloss and a stain all in one, but does not goop and stick (have you ever worn lip gloss on a windy day?). It also does not dry out your lips like some lip stains. Just a tiny dot on your lips and you have a stain. A gloss can be achieved with just a little bit more lip tar and trust me when I say it is stunning!

Kat’s Favourite Oscar Dresses
February 29th, 2012
Sunday night I sat down to watch the Red Carpet (just missing the ‘dictator’ while on a sushi run). I was pleasantly suprised by how many of Hollywoods starlets ‘brought it’ and what a classy group of dresses we all got to see this year!
Here are some of my favourite dresses for the night:
1. Michelle Williams- Does anyone else have those moments when you remember Michelle from Dawson’s Creek and feel completely taken back by her success and progress in years past? Well this year it was extra difficult to separate her from her Dawson’s Creeks roots since her date was former Dawson’s Creek cast member Busy Philipps – it was hard to not be stunned by the transformation. I also couldn’t help but feel proud that her journey has taken her to a place where she is one of the most respected young actresses in Hollywood. I am certain she will one day go home with an Oscar.
I think this is the most memorable look of the night for me, it is classic, sweet and striking all at once, from her red Louis Vuitton dress to her sweet but simple makeup.

2. Berenice Bejo- I loved her in The Artist and I also loved this dress. Perhaps it was not the best shape for her and it does remind me slightly of a figure skating outfit, but the detail and the flapper influence made it a hit for me!
3. Rooney Mara- It is always fun to see a breakout performance by an actress who has seemingly come out of nowhere. Much like Carey Mulligan, Mara has us our attention. I love her quirky pin-up girl hair and makeup, paired with an elegant white lace Givenchy gown. It is demur and fun all at the same time.
A far cry from her character in The Girl with the dragon Tattoo resulting in a fashion nod by many fashion experts.

4. Kristen Wiig- For a girl who is so funny, smart and gorgeous, she also knows how to pick a great dress! I love the silouette and softness of this dress. The nude J. Mendel was a great colour choice in contrast with her slightly darker yet highlighted hair.
5. Penelope Cruz – According to Penelope she doesn’t need to put too much thought into her Oscar gown, which is perhaps why her 2012 Armani Prive dress looks seemless on her. Doesn’t she look like Cinderella? I love the neckline as well as the beautiful layered fabric.
6. Cameron Dias- I love the contrast between the simplicity of the top of the dress to the sparkly shimmery detail on the lower half and the train. This cream coloured Gucci dress was such a pretty choice because of it’s interesting asymmetrical silhouette and the ruffles that carried out to the floor

Dick Smith Honoured at the Oscars
February 27th, 2012
It was beautiful and heart warming to see one of the honorary Oscars go to Dick Smith, an amazing Makeup Artist for just over 50 years and excellent body of work. I will never forget that spinning head from The Exorcist. His work in prosthetics and his ability to age and wrinkle and frighten has made him an industry hero and an inspiration to many special effects artists. It is always great to see the greats honoured!
