The other Oscars Awards…

February 28th, 2013

Let’s be real for a moment. Yes, we tune into the Oscars every year to honour cinematic excellence, but we’d be lying if we said that was the ONLY reason we tune in.  The “who won what” sometimes gets momentarily outshone by the “who wore what.” While our major take-away from this prestigious award show should have something to do with inspiring performances, insightful direction, and moving scores, it usually has more to do with beautiful gowns. So, in true award ceremony fashion (no pun intended) we’ve decided to hand out our own awards.

So without further ado…

The award for most economic and eco friendly dress…
Helen Hunt in H&M

Hollywood glamor can sometimes seem unattainable to the everyday woman, but at this year’s show Oscar nominee, Helen Hunt, made a inexpensive statement. Rejecting the usual high end, red-carpet designers for a

more affordable H&M blue gown she inspired a lot of buzz for not a lot of buck. Although, that could be debated. While the actress was frugal in her dress choice, she splurged on her jewellery, which was believed to slightly nullify the overall effect of an affordable dress choice. Nonetheless, we commend Helen Hunt for doing something a little more down to earth, and being “green” while doing it.

The Award for Fashion over Function…

Jennifer Lawrence in Doir
Speaking of down to earth, Jennifer Lawrence was doing a lot winning Sunday night. Not only did she win the award for Best Actress, she won us over by being an overall cool chick. Seriously, she was like our best friend, only dressed up in a stunning Couture Dior gown. Beneath the fancy duds was a great sense of humour, that came in handy during her incredibly human moment of tripping up the stairs while going to accept her Oscar. When asked what happened by a reporter Jennifer quipped, “What do you mean what happened? Look at this dress!” Perhaps, Jennifer might not have chosen the most functional dress, but luckily she accessorized it with a great sense of humor.

The Award for Most adorable accessory
Quvenzhané Wallis in Armani

Admit it, you were totally jealous of Quenzhané’s stuffed animal purse. I mean, how many celebrities get to show up to a prestigious award ceremony with a stuffed dog hanging from them, without looking like a bit of quack-job? (See Bjork, circa 2000). Quvenzhané looked adorable, and her plushly accessory proved that even amidst all of the celebrity glamor there is still some room for child-like fun!

Grin and bearing it Award
Kristen Stewart in Reem Acra Couture Gown

The actress may not be known for grinning, or for making any kind of facial expression for that matter, but we have to give it to her, despite a recent ankle injury she still looked ravishing!  Nothing seems more awkward than formal wear paired with crutches, but Stewart didn’t let that deter her from looking amazing!

Best Dressed: Tied Amanda Seyfried in Alexander McQueen and Kerry Washington in Miu Miu

The sartorial theme of this year’s Oscars seemed to be subdued colours, which is why we love these ladies’ dresses. Amanda Seyfried embraced the trend beautifully, wearing an pale lavender Alexander McQueen gown that was embellished with glitzy foliage. Kerry Washington stood out in her flattering coral Miu Miu piece. That had a beautifully beaded bodice. Between the two, we just can’t choose, so we’re calling it a tie!

February 22nd, 2013

It’s that time of year again!!!
Drum roll please……..
It’s time for the Oscars 2013!!!

The big question on everyone’s mind in the fashion/beauty world is:
“What will they wear?” and “What will their hair/makeup be like?”
While we wait for the big night, let us take a look back at some of last year’s best Red Carpet moments!!

Best:

Mr. George Clooney. Need I say more?
This man has always been well dressed!!
Not to mention all the ladies love him!!

Michelle Williams was stunning in this red dress and her fantastic pixie cut!!
Even though she didn’t win an Oscar she won our hearts with this outfit choice!!

Meryl Streep won Best Actress last year… and it was very well deserved!! While there was many other woman nominated, in polls online 60% of people say Meryl Streep was more deserving than other nominees.

Can’t wait to see what we will see this year!!! Keep in contact with us on twitter @BeautySoClean also during the Oscars use the hashtag #bscoscars to let us know what you think of the Oscars

Have you been Naughty or Nice?

December 3rd, 2012

Have you been Naughty or Nice?

Whoever said cleaning isn’t fun? This Christmas season BeautySoClean is launching two new holiday scented Brush Cleansers that will leave your brushes smelling absolutely delicious. Just one spray on your makeup

brush and visions gingerbread or candy cane will dance in your head. And the best part is, it’s totally calorie free. Not only will these bite sized brush cleansers fit perfectly in a stocking stuffer, you will probably want to keep one for your own makeup kit. That is, if you have been good this year.

Whether your products are junky or not, your makeup bag likely contains oodles of primping products; some that are used frequently and others that haven’t been used in years. Makeup is a commonly used surface. This

holiday and flu season, make sure to safeguard your health by sanitizing your makeup everyday!

A Clean Start for the New Year!

Whether your products are junky or not, your makeup bag likely contains oodles of primping products; some that are used frequently and others that haven’t been used in years. No matter how often they are used, these products could be chock full of germs and bacteria, which can contribute to infections, allergic reactions and even acne! Make a clean break this New Year from makeup bag microbes with these simple resolutions.

NEW YEARS RESOLUTION #1: KEEP IT CLEAN

Many of us know that expired cosmetics can breed germs, however, even new makeup is prone to bacterial cross-contamination from your hands, face, lips and eyes; it’s like using the same facecloth every day without washing it. Lab results showed common bacteria such as Staphylococcus Aureus (staph), Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and E. coli present on cosmetics sourced not only from in-store beauty counters, but also from personal makeup bags.

How do you clean those precious cosmetics that haven’t expired? A quick daily spritz or wipe with BeautySoClean™ Cosmetic Sanitizers will not only remove bacteria within 10 seconds,

but rejuvenate the product back to a virtually new state without changing the color or feel of the makeup. The Cosmetic Sanitizer Wipes are perfect for sanitizing lipsticks, pencils and mascara wands, while the Cosmetic Sanitizer Mist works great on powder-based products and solid foundations or concealers. Don’t forget to keep your brushes clean since bacteria can commute from your brush to your makeup to your face. For a fast way to clean your brushes without the soapy mess, try the Conditioning Brush Cleanser. This year, make a promise to your makeup, your skin and your health. No more dirty cosmetics!

NEW YEARS RESOLUTION #2: OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW

As you reminisce over looks from past seasons, wondering whether you could still pull off that emerald green shadow (circa 2005)

think about whether you could pull off a nasty staph infection.

When sprucing up your cosmetics collection, take a close look inside your makeup bag for items that haven’t been used for

a while and may have expired.  The preservative system within the product may no

longer be effective, allowing for accelerated

growth of bacteria. Cosmetic expiry dates are rarely indicated on the package, so the general ‘rule of thumb’ is: 1 to 2 years for powder-based makeup, lipstick and pencils; 6 months to 1 year for cream-based makeup; and mascara, with the shortest lifespan of 3 months. If you think it’s close but are a bit unsure, be sure to clean it with BeautySoClean™. If it has passed its deadline, or looks or smells a bit funny, then it’s time to lose it! Start fresh in 2013, and lose that makeup baggage!

NEW YEARS RESOLUTION #3: TAKE CARE

Remember last year’s crimson red lipstick that complemented those

trendy shades so well? You’ve only had it for a year and let’s face it; red lips are here to stay. If your most cherished beauty pieces are not past their prime, with a little BeautySoClean™ maintenance and the right storage solution they’ll remain as good as new.

Improper storage in areas with excess dampness, moisture or extreme temperature changes can cause your makeup to spoil. Therefore, store cosmetics outside of the bathroom in a place with low humidity. Finally, if it isn’t feasible to purchase a new makeup case/bag each year, be sure to clean it every so often to prevent dirt and bacterial build-up.

Following these simple steps will ensure that your makeup remains clean, fresh and bacteria-free year-round.
